The important point about a failure is to know about it before your boss or your customers notice. Watchdog can alert you via e-mail, or even SMS, if your web site, your mail system, or your whole server stops, or loses network connection.

It also shows uptime information, and makes beautiful charts that you can show to your bosses. :-)

E-mail notification is for free. With the free account, you can watch 5 servers. If you want to use SMS for notification, you can buy 100 SMS credits for only $25, using any internet-enabled EuroCard/Mastercard or Visa card.

When you buy SMS credit, your account is upgraded to VIP status, and you can keep your eye on not 5, but 15 servers. The banner also disappears, providing you with faster load times.
